Kleb's Kids was started in December 1990 by Mike Kleban and became a ministry of Oak Grove United Methodist Church Charlotte, NC in 2000.
The main mission of Kleb's Kids is "To put a smile on the face of children in need on Christmas morning". We know for a fact that most children we support would wake up Christmas morning to find out that Santa, for some reason, didn't stop by their house. We verify this by working with the schools and social workers to carefully select our families.
What can a child expect to get from Kleb's Kids? Since the children are used to getting clothes handed down to them, we make sure to buy them brand new clothes. We buy 2-3 outfits, under clothing, socks, coats, shoes and a couple of toys. We don't buy electronic games, cell phones, iPods, etc. Each child will also receive a stocking filled with candy and cookies. Every child also receives a $25 gift certificate to a grocery store.
The Saturday before Christmas, all the children and families are invited to a Christmas party where they enjoy refreshments and their gifts given to them by Santa. As they receives their gifts Santa tells each one of them they are special to him and since he is real busy on Christmas Eve he wanted to go ahead and give them their gifts now, but they can't open them until Christmas morning.
The base of our ministry consists of five people: Michelle Williams, Sue Bethea, Joni Lineberger, Ted Borkenski, and Mike Kleban. We are five people, with the help of many friends and family, who enjoy helping these families in need each and every year during Christmas.
We receive our children from the following schools in Charlotte, NC:
We also receive children from the community food pantry at Harrisburg United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, NC.
